Fushe Kosova Learning Center (FKLC)

Located 5-30 minutes (depending on traffic) outside of Prishtina, Fushe Kosova hosts the largest Learning Center within the BSF Learning Center Network. Serving approximately 300 children daily, the center is staffed by seven facilitators and thirty-five tutors. The center is directed by Rrahmon Stollaku. The center is unique in that it has programs both in Albanian and Serbian languages. Fushe Kosova Learning Center provides early childhood, elementary and secondary educational programming as well as additional support for staff currently enrolled in secondary school and college. Gracanica Learning Center (GLC)

Located in one of the largest Serbian speaking communities in Kosovo, Gracanica Learning Center serves approximately 80 Roma children daily. The center is staffed by two facilitators and 6 tutors. Afrim Osmani, the Center coordinator, is a very respected both community leader and religious figure in Gracanica. The Gracanica Learning Center focuses on pre-school and primary education with a special kindergarten program as well. Balkan Sunflowers has implemented programs in Gracanica since 2001. The Learning Center opened as the Gracanica Education Center in April 2004. In 2007, the Municipality and Irish and Finnish KFOR units together built a building for the Center, an recognition of the impact the Center has had in enabling Gracanica Roma children to stay and succeed in school. Plemetina Learning Center (PLC)

Plemetina is a village three kilometers from Obiliq/Obilić town, home of Kosovo’s two coal-fired power plants. The Center serves a predominately Roma population who attend school in Serbian language. Approximately 70 children attend the center daily and are supported by 4 facilitators and 3 tutors. The center is directed by Driton Berisa, who has been involved with BSF programs since 2002. Driton recently completed one-month away from the Center in an internship with the Council of Europe. In addition to normal BSF LCN programming, the center also hosts a scouts program for local boys. Involvement of tutors with homework help began in 2007 helping to test the practice for development in the Learning Centers Network. Meet PLC staff. See some PLC successes.

Shtime Learning Center (ShLC)

Shtime Learning Center is located in the hills of central Kosovo just west of Ferizaj. Shtime, our newest center, opened in January of 2009. On a hill overlooking the town, the center serves approximately 70 children each day in the language club, homework help, and preschool programs. The staff includes a coordinator, one facilitator, seven tutors, and a cleaner-cook. The center is directed by Jasmina Hysaj who, prior to work with BSF, was a public school teacher. In addition to normal BSF LCN programming, the center also has a Women’s Literacy Program. Meet ShLC staff. See some ShLC successes.

Plemetina Building Learning Center (PBLC)

Plemetina Buildings Learning Center … Plemetina Buildings Learning Center (PBLC) is located on the ground floor of the Plemetina Social Housing Buildings for internally displaced people. The center opened in 2013 bringing the Learning Centers Network to a total of five centers. Unemployment here is dauntingly high at over 90% so it is important that the approximately 45 children attending the center understand the value of education and how it can contribute to future success. The center is very active with dedicated staff offering a preschool program, homework help and parenting classes daily.
